"I belive that my profession needs a shift of emphasis. Pediatrics is a primary care specialty that must be community-oriented and community based. Our parents need us to help make the entire community more child-friendly and our society more child-oriented. Thus, training programs must instill in today's pediatrician the need to develop a long-term commitment to the community concerns, so as to be better prepared to impact on children's health at the community level. Only by such a shift of focus can the well-being of all America's children be improved." |

Cultural Film Series
An evening film series is used to teach concepts, including multi-generational family structures, gender views, interactions between traditional and Western cultures, issues facing refugees, as well as others which can be generalized and used in interactions with many different cultures. The goal of each evening is to provide the residents with a broader picture of the culture represented in the film, as well as tools to improve communication with children and families from that particular culture. Films are followed by facilitated discussion. Dinner provided.
