SAN DIEGO AND IMPERIAL REGIONAL NUTRITION NETWORK
San Diego and Imperial Regional Nutrition Network is 2.75 year grant (January 2005-September 2007) from the
United States Department of Agriculture with goals to:
- Create environments where food stamp participants and similar low-income Californians
are encouraged, enabled and therefore, more likely to increase:
- Increase daily consumption of fruits and vegetables from 2 cups to 6 1/2 cups a day,
based on newly released recommendations from the "2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans."
- Increase daily physical activity to a minimum of 30 minutes for adults and 60 minutes for kids
The Regional Nutrition Network components include:
- Provide Training, Coordination and Communication Support Across the Region
- Form a Proactive Collaborative (San Diego Nutrition Network) to Implement Advocacy Initiatives
- Implement Targeted 5 a Day Campaigns to Promote the 5 a Day Message and Physical Activity, including Latino 5 a Day, 5 a Day-Power Play!, African American 5 a Day, and Worksite 5 a Day.
