UCSD
PARTNERSHIP OF IMMUNIZATION PROVIDERS

STUDY DESIGN

The goals and objectives of UCSD PIP have been carried out in three phases. Efforts during Phase One focused on the collaborating partner clinics. These clinics were chosen for their geographic proximity to populations of high need and the lower-than-average immunization coverage rates in their communities. The target areas for initial intervention included San Ysidro, National City, City Heights, Encanto, Lincoln Heights, Golden Hill, Logan Heights, Downtown, Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, San Marcos and El Cajon. Phase Two focused on other healthcare providers within the targeted communities. Phase Three of the project, now underway, took what was learned from Phases One and Two and is attempting to generalize those lessons to other healthcare providers throughout the county, including managed care organizations.

The valuable partnerships formed during this study are moving together into new directions. For example, with providers from Phase One and Two clinics, PIP is studying the adoption of new vaccines by the health community. Future plans also call for study of adolescent and adult immunization practices.
